Seth William Warrell, age 98, passed away Tuesday, March 5 at Lakeview Village, Lenexa, Kansas. Seth was born in Kansas City, Kansas in 1920 to Seth Homer Warrell and Frances Marie Bernethy. He graduated from Washington Rural High School in 1939. He was a member of the football team and art editor of all the school publications.

Seth was employed by Hallmark Cards, Inc. in 1939. He attended the Kansas City Art Institute while working. In March, 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Ranger aircraft carrier until the end of WWII. He returned to Hallmark Cards where he was ultimately appointed group manager in the Graphic Arts division and remained employed there 45 years until retirement.

Seth married Merle Louise Riedl October 10, 1941. After retirement, they spent 34 years between their homes in Lenexa and in Florida. Seth was an avid woodcarver and golfer, who achieved nine holes-in-one, the last when he was age 90. Seth was a 50-year Mason and a Shriner.

He is survived by his wife, Merle, his son, Thomas Warrell (Marie), his daughter, Peggy Mendon (Michael), granddaughters Amanda Mendon, Michele Miller (Jason), and Kathleen Warrell (Matt Niznik), two great-granddaughters, and many nephews and neices. Seth was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Lester Warrell and sister, Barbara Jean Damico

Visitation and Services

A celebration of Seth’s life will be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2019 at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21 at the funeral home.  Seth will be laid to rest in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas immediately following the service.
