Shirley Ruth "Mimi" Root Genton, 83, passed away on June 16, 2013, in Prairie Village, Kansas, after living for 23 years in Metairie, Louisiana, and then The Woodlands, Texas.

She was born in Norwood, Ohio, to Edwin and Ella Root, who preceded her in death. Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Edward Genton, MD and celebrated 63 years of marriage together.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her sister, Joyce (Charlie) Carraher, Cincinnati, Ohio; sons, Randall (Karen) Genton, Leawood, Kansas and Todd (Kim) Genton, Chicago, Illinois; daughter Julie (Doug) Schlegel, The Woodlands, Texas; and her beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Amy, Tia, Kristina, Cody and Sarah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Ella Root; brother, Edwin; and her sister, Dorothy.

She was a loving wife and mother who was most remarkable for her desire to always help others

A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Center for Advance Heart Care at the University of Kansas Hospital.
