Shirley A. Hanusch

February 16, 1926 — January 31, 2016

Shirley A. Hanusch, 89, passed away at home in Mission, KS on Sunday, January 31, 2016. Shirley was born February 16, 1926 at her parent's home in Central Missouri. She was valedictorian of her class when she graduated from high school and then attended Central Missouri State University.

After leaving Central Missouri State, Shirley moved to the Kansas City area and began her career as an Executive Secretary. She worked for several executives at General Motors and Bendix during her career. After her children grew older, she returned to work, employed by Midwest Chandelier Company and other companies in addition to the Internal Revenue Service.

When Shirley moved to Kansas City, she became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City, MO. She taught Sunday School there, was active in the Walther League, and sang in both a choir and a sextet. In 1958 she married Karl Hanusch and became an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mission, KS. Throughout her 50-plus years of membership, she participated in many different activities in the church. At various times, she taught Sunday School, Midweek classes, and Vacation Bible School for youth, participated in the Ladies' Circle, served on the Altar Guild, attended Bible Studies, and was active in the 50-plus group. With her husband Karl, she also was a Sunday Greeter, served as a Counter, delivered flowers to hospitalized and shut-in members, and was active in many other areas of the church. Shirley was also active in the Valpo Guild, supporting Valparaiso University. In the community she assisted with Girl Scout activities, and later supported the local Elections Board by working at polling stations.

Shirley and Karl had two daughters. She was dedicated to her family and provided guidance and support to her children, parents, husband, and brother throughout her life.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Karl, and her brother Ernest. She is survived by her daughter Carlene (Steven) Kamradt, Fayetteville, NC; and Angela (John) Hess, Simi Valley, CA; and one granddaughter Victoria Hess.

A visitation will held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5601 West 62nd Street, Mission, Kansas on Thursday, February 4 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 5 at 11:00 am at the church with visitation from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery Kansas City, MO immediately following the service.
