Stanley G. Hixson

November 25, 1947 — March 5, 2014

Stanley George Hixson. “Born in Chicago Illinois, but made in Japan,” he always said, because his father was stationed as a Chaplain in Japan in 1946 for the Armed Forces.

Raised in Kansas City, Kansas, Stan Hixson was the son of Dr. George S. Hixson and Alice D. Hixson. He attended Mark Twain Elementary and Wyandotte High school. He graduated from William Jewell College in 1968 then enlisted in the US Air Force where he was a photographer.

He met his wife Alice Ray on a tour of Europe in 1971- their first date being a tour of the Heidelberg castle. They were married in St. Joseph MO on May 25, 1975. Stan worked in public relations in Successful Living Christian Books in Edina, Minnesota. There he developed a large distribution network of Christian book racks in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. Later, he taught leadership and speech and writing at the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and finally continued his federal career with the Department of the Navy in Arlington Virginia. In his retirement he sold Christian t-shirts under the name, Great Ideas.

Stan is survived by his wife, Alice Ray Hixson; his brother Philip Hixson; his children, Polly Alice McCann, Jay Stanley Hixson, Christa Miller (and husband Chreston Miller), and Michael Wayne Hixson; his grandchildren Sophia I. McCann, Benjamin G. McCann, Hannah R. Miller, and David C. Miller, and many close relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Alice D. Hixson and George S. Hixson and granddaughter, Rose Mary McCann.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Amos Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m Tuesday at the funeral home followed by burial with military honors at Shawnee Mission Memorial Gardens.
