Stephen Reed Cloud, age 73, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, surrounded by his family.
Steve was born March 11, 1949, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Bonnie and Forrest Cloud. He attended school in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and went on to receive a Bachelor in Business and Economics from the University of Kansas in 1971. Rock Chalk Jayhawk! During his time at KU, Steve met the love of his life, Barbara Verron, and they were married on August 26, 1972. After college, Steve and Barb had three sons, Matt, Kevin and Jeff, who married three wonderful women, Stacey, Allison and Kayce, whom Steve considered daughters. He loved to spend time with his seven grandchildren, Emily, Sam, Ben, Andrew, Levi, Owen and Alice, playing chess, boating, teaching life lessons, or telling very, very long stories.
Steve was dedicated as a life-long employee at IBT Industrial Solutions, a company founded by his parents the year he was born. During the fifty years that he served and led IBT, he considered every person that worked there family. He continued the culture and success created by his parents, and his legacy will live on at IBT through future generations.
In 1981, Steve entered the political arena and served three consecutive two-year terms as a Legislator in the Kansas House of Representatives. He served on several committees and made an impact on the people and the policies in which he believed. From 2002-2008, Steve served as the Republican National Committeeman for the State of Kansas representing the state at a national level.
Steve had many passions in life including watching KU basketball (he and Barb often had advice for the coaches), vacationing in the Lake of the Ozarks, drinking wine with family and friends, and sailing down the Sir Francis Drake Channel in the British Virgin Islands. He was a pirate at heart and was truly at home on the sea.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie and Forrest, and his younger brother Roger. Steve is survived by his wife Barbara of 50 years; brother Forrest (Shannon); children, Matt (Stacey), Kevin (Allison), and Jeff (Kayce); grandchildren Emily, Sam, Ben, Andrew, Levi, Owen and Alice; and nieces and nephew Melanie, Darren and Leslie.
A special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and entire staff at KU Medical Center. They offered kindness and compassionate care for Steve and gave support to his entire family during this difficult time.
