Steven R. Anderson

Steven Robert Anderson, 62, Bennington, Kansas succumbed to illness Friday, September 4, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota.

Steve was raised in Wichita, Kansas and graduated from Emporia State University where he met his wife of 39 years, Peggy (Skwarlo) Anderson, who survives. They have two children, Steven "Andy" of Denver, Colorado and Julie Banninger (husband Chris), of Salina, Kansas.

A mainframe computer programmer and information systems specialist, most of Steve's career was spent with Best Buy Co. in Minnesota. His work there led to his promotion to Sr. Vice President/Chief Information Officer. He won the RITA, Interactive Summit and Smithsonian Awards. He later was CIO of Paper Warehouse, Minnesota and went on to Target Corporation, Salina, Kansas. He recently retired to a hobby farm in Bennington, Kansas to be closer to his grandchildren, Corbin and Brooke Banninger. He enjoyed the quieter life, tending his chores. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Parma Anderson and brother, Cris. He is also survived by his brother, Rick Anderson, Haysville, Kansas; sister, Parma Sue McCaffree, Valley Center, Kansas.

Steve's dry sense of humor will be missed by his friends and family. His caring presence will never be forgotten.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee; burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm Thursday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
