Steven J. Handelman

Steven Joseph Handelman, 60, of Merriam, died Nov. 27, at Kansas City Hospice House. Steve was born in Richmond Heights, Missouri; was a graduate of Emporia State University; and worked in the Johnson County Developmental Supports workshop. He loved his family, friends and caregivers; was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals; and could answer the toughest of trivia questions. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard, and brother, Paul. He is survived by his mother, Barbara; brother, Mike (Ann); sisters, Susie Cozad (Kevin), Ellen Stevenson (Scott) and Amy Bennett (Brad); and nieces and nephews, Sarah, Lacey, Paul, Tom, Lily and Kaiya. He leaves behind many longtime beloved friends, including Mike Mulloy.

A rosary will be Sunday, Nov. 30, at 1:30 p.m., and will be followed by a family tribute and visitation from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas. Cremation and private family burial.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions go to Johnson County Developmental Supports or Kansas City Hospice.
