Steven B. Springer, 62, of Shawnee, Kansas, was a loving father and cherished friend.
He was born on July 4th, 1953, in Long Beach, California.
He graduated from Truman High School in Independence, Missouri in 1971. That same year he enlisted in the United States Navy, specializing as an electrician's mate, during the Vietnam War.
After leaving the Navy, he became a Corrections Officer at San Quentin State Prison in California, where he worked for 12 years.
He was a lifetime member of Masonic Live Oak Lodge #61 in Oakland, California, where he became a 32nd degree Mason.
In 1991, he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from DeVry University.
Steve was deeply involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He obtained the rank of Eagle Scout from Troop 383 of Independence, Missouri at age 17. While at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation, he achieved the rank of Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and chose the name of Fighting Nighthawk; later he gained the rank of Sachem.
He served as Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 93 in Shawnee, Kansas for 17 years, where he was inducted into the Order of the Arrow at Theodore Naish Scout Reservation and became a Brotherhood member. He was also part of Venture Crew 2888 and served as a Commissioner of the Northern Tier District.
Some of his hobbies included camping, hunting, scuba diving, fly fishing, and woodcarving, but above all he was an avid reader. He was an NRA Certified Rifle and Shotgun Instructor and a Boy Scout Medical Officer. He enjoyed watching the Three Stooges, James Bond, and John Wayne movies. His favorite board games were Monopoly and Billie Cheats. He was a die-hard Chiefs and Royals fan, and a proud KU Dad. He loved eating peanut M&Ms and Oreos dipped in peanut butter.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Peggy Marlene Springer; his two children, Lauren Renee Springer; Andrew Christopher and his wife Tara Springer; his sister, Rhonda and her husband Mike Hooten; his niece, Lindsay Claycamp.

Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 26, 2015, at the Amos Family Funeral Home. Memorial service immediately following.
