Susan Jill Hays, fondly known as Jill, passed away peacefully from natural causes on July 14, 2024, at the age of 74. She was born on June 19, 1950, in Evansville, IN, and spent her final days in Leawood, KS.
Jill devoted her career to the field of education, enriching the lives of countless students within the Turner school district. Her love for teaching English and speech/drama showcased her dedication, creativity, and unwavering commitment to her students. Her passion for teaching was recognized in 1988 when she was honored with the Teacher of the Year award by the Kansas Jaycees.
A lifelong learner and avid reader, Jill found joy in music, writing, and cheering for Jayhawk basketball.
Jill’s intellectual curiosity and love for learning were evident in all her pursuits.
Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Arthur and Ramona Hays, and her brother, Richard Hays, Jill's legacy continues through her surviving family. She leaves behind her son, Matthew Clark, his wife, Tina Clark, and their son, Sawyer Clark; her daughter, Lisa Leathers; granddaughter, Laurel Farris, and grandson, Caleb Imgarten. Jill will also be deeply missed by her sister-in-law, Deborrah Hays, along with numerous friends and colleagues who were privileged to know and love her.
A memorial service to honor Jill’s life will be held on Monday, August 26th, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208. In accordance with her wishes, Jill's ashes will join her parents’ resting place in the family hometown of West Frankfort, IL at a future date.
Jill Hays will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, educator, and friend. Her wit, warmth, and kindness will remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
