Susana Aguilar

Susie was born on August 12, 1932 to Jose Maria and Tomasa Aguilar in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico. As a young girl, Susie attended an all-girl, Catholic school. At fourteen years of age, she came to Kansas City to live with her half-brother and his family.

Susie worked for the Pennway Garment Company at 514 W 26th St. Kansas City, MO, near Crown Center. She was a proud member of the Ladies Garment Union. After finding work in the garment industry, she was able to sponsor her mother and her sister, Socorro, to come join her in Kansas City. She, later, sponsored her other sister, Maria and her husband and their children to come to Kansas City. After retiring from the garment industry, Susie was not one to sit around. She worked various jobs and retired, again, from Gerson, Mission, KS. There, she worked as a jewelry inspector.

Susie was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, KS. where she volunteered. She was especially dedicated to her ‘Holy Hour’ at the chapel. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and a Guadalupana (devoted to Our Lady of Guadalupe.) While she was able, she traveled to Mexico, every August, to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City and visited other cities whose patron saints were important to her. She. also, visited her relatives in Mexico and took them clothes and gifts each year. She was a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs with Travis Kelce as her favorite player.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Maria A. Delgado, half-brother Antonio Aguilar, Sr., half-brother Vincent Aguilar, and a nephew, John M. Delgado.

She is survived by a sister, Socorro Espinoza, Shawnee, KS; Nieces, Sandy Hanson (Mike) and their son, Sam, Olathe, KS; Sylvia Villanueva (John) and their daughter, Araceli, Westwood, KS; Maria Eugenia Hopkins (Bobby), Ormond Beach, FL; Yolanda Rimbey, Connie Delgado, Kansas City, MO; and Jacqueline Delgado, Plattsburg, MO. Nephews, Arthur Delgado (Vickie), Raymore, MO; Eddie Delgado, Kansas City, MO; Gustavo Delgado (Marianne), Olathe, KS; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins in the U.S. and Mexico.

Our Aunt Susie will be greatly missed! We love you Aunt Susie!
