Terry E. Gruenewald

Terry Edward Gruenewald, 64, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Olathe Medical Center.

Born in Saint Louis, Missouri, the first son of Edward James and Elizabeth Mary (Specker) Gruenewald. Terry proudly served in the Marine Corps Reserve (1966-1972). Terry was a talented entrepreneur, mentor, and loving family man who took a genuine interest in everyone around him. He was an engaging person who made people feel comfortable and relaxed. Terry will be remembered for his sound advice, good and warm nature, and the wonderful, spiritual life he shared with all those who were priviledged to know him. Our loss is Heaven’s gain as Terry will be truly missed.

Terry is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Susan of the home; his children, Terry II (Victoria), Susie (Jon) Pennington, Katie (Kevin) Ott, and Matthew (Mary Beth) Gruenewald; and his grandchildren Jason, Tamara, Thomas, Zachary, Amanda, Melissa Gruenewald; Annika, Ryan Pennington; Michael, Felix Ott. He is also survived by his mother, Bette Gruenewald; his siblings, David, Linda (Evers), Steven, Danny, Jimmy, and Nancy (Dark); and his aunts, cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his baby brother Jeffrey (1961) and his father Edward Gruenewald (1977).

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Red Cross to help military members and their families at P.O. Box 4002018, Des Moines, Iowa 50340-2018.

Visitation and Funeral Service

A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, April 9, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
