Thomas Hammond

October 5, 1945 — November 18, 2012

Thomas Wilfred Hammond, 67, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away peacefully November 18, 2012, at Kansas City Hospice House.

Thomas (Tom) was born in New York, New York, on October 5, 1945, to Wilfred John and Bergit Amelia (Lund) Hammond. Tom was one of four brothers. He attended school at Queen of the Holy Rosary School, Bishop Miege High School, and Emporia State University.

Tom began his career as a sales representative for White Stag . He ended his career as the owner of his own interior design and custom finish carpentry business, working in Naples, Florida, Xinzheng City, China.

Tom could always be recognized by his silver white-hair, which earned him the nickname ‘Silver Fox.' He frequently donned all white attire, with the occasional addition of a canary yellow sports coat. Tom had an infectious laugh and a playful personality. He was an avid golfer and could take a lady on a turn or two around the dance floor. For fun he also liked to design renovations for family members, drawing up detailed architectural plans, including the tools required for each job. In his retirement, he enjoyed success in poker competitions at local bars and online.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include three brothers, Edward Hammond and wife, Mary, of Hays, Kansas, Phillip Hammond and wife, Jody, of Lenexa, Kansas, and James Hammond of Gainesville, Georgia; 8 nieces and nephews; and 13 great nieces and nephews.
