Thomas M. Lightfoot, 81, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Thomas was born December 19, 1934 to the late Thomas Arthur and Violet Lightfoot in Rosedale, Kansas. He graduated from Kansas School for the Deaf where he met the love of his life, JoAnne. They were married April 7, 1957; she preceded him in death on July 23, 2013 after 56 years of marriage. While attending school, Thomas played defensive tackle on the football team and learned his trade as a typesetter. After graduation, Tom went to work for the Kansas City Star until 1977 before joining the rest of his family at Cooper Health. He retired in 1996. He was a founding member of the Deaf Cultural Center in Olathe and was very involved in the deaf community. Tom was a member of the Shawnee Methodist Church and had an infallible faith. Tom was an avid Kansas City sports fan who had a great sense of humor and charming personality, who will be missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his five daughters, Connie Harris-Hensley; Patty Klein; Peggy Remy (Chuck); Krista Speer (Rick); Anita Gemsky; 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two step grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, November 21 at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home with burial following in Pleasant View Cemetery.
