Thomas Bryce Lyons

May 13, 1967 — May 11, 2011

Thomas Lyons, 43, of Shawnee, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011, while doing what he loved, skating, in Riverside, Missouri.

Tom was born May 13, 1967, to Harry and Penelope Lyons in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Grandview High School and completed his GED before joining the Army in 1984.

On October 9, 1993, he married the love of his life, Crystal Toomay in Lenexa, Kansas. Everything he did was for his wife and kids. Roller skating was a big part of Tom's life. He was the Captain of the Cowtown Butcher's Roller Derby Team and was known as "Expresso". Tom also served as an Official of the K.C. Women's Roller Derby.

Tom loved being in the great outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends camping, kayaking, and hunting. Tom was a member of Teamsters Local 101 and worked for CB Richard Ellis as the Lead Engineer, Kansas City Jeep Club and American Legion Post #327. He also was active with his son Daniel in Boy Scout Troop 428.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Crystal; his two children, Daniel and Kara; mother Penelope Lyons; five siblings, John Lyons, Michael Lyons, Winifred Bryant, Bonnie Searcy, and Heather DelaCruz; in-laws, Dennis and Betty Agan; brother in laws, Ron Toomay, Doug Toomay, Shannon Agan, and Robert Agan. Tom was a dedicated family man and friend, and will be missed by all his family and friends.

Memorial Visitation

A memorial visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. The family requests in keeping with Tom's carefree spirit, to dress casual, and come as you are.
