Thomas M. Nelson

d. August 26, 2020

Tom went to be with our heavenly Father on August 26, 2020. He was married to the love of his life, Sharon, and would have celebrated their 50th anniversary on October 17th. He is survived by his wife and four children: Becky Drabik (Brent); Darrin Nelson (Jeni); Walter Nelson (Caroline); Jonathan Nelson (Maria); and eight grandchildren: T.J.; Cassity; Karley; Madi; Kenzi; Grace; Zack; and Elsie. He was preceded in death by his father Raymond; mother Goldie; brother Raymond Jr.; and sister Connie.

Tom's childhood years saw many different towns and schools. He graduated from DeSoto high school where he was a part of the basketball team and ranked number one on the tennis team. He held different positions in his career. His favorite was with Capitol Federal Savings Bank where he worked for 17 years. He retired as the Facilities Superintendent.

Tom was a jack of all trades spending countless hours repairing family cars, electronics, and making improvements to his family's home. His favorite project was the front porch where he spent a lot of time in his rocking chair enjoying retirement. He also enjoyed mowing his lawn and tending to his garden.

His favorite times in life were when he was playing country music and singing with his dad and his family. He was passionate about music and was an avid guitarist. He enjoyed playing in a country western band in his younger years. He found the most joy when playing and singing Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings songs with his wife and children. He also loved road trips preferring to drive over flying. He and Sharon traveled to many places including Wyoming, South Dakota, and Sharon's home state of West Virginia. His favorite place to visit was Colorado.

Tom's love for his family was second to none. He was devoted to his faith and lived his life as an example for his children and grandchildren. He was a protector of the family, loving husband, dedicated father, doting grandfather, and was blessed with many long-time friendships. He will be truly missed by his loved ones and friends.
