Thomas "Tom" Lawson

Thomas “Tom” Charles Lawson was born March 14, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri to Thelma Pauline and William Lawson.

He passed away December 5, 2022 at the age of 87.

On January 7, 1954 he joined the US Army. After basic training he was deployed to Korea where he served 6 months, then was sent to Japan to finish out his service. He spent his Christmas 1955 on board ship in Fort Ord, California and was released on December 29, 1955.

Tom went to work for Ford, then in January 1957 he started work at International Harvester/JI Case as a material handler/ticket picker. He met a lot of good ole’ boys at work and became very active in the Steelworkers Local #14777. He was a very dedicated Union man.

In November 29, 1957 he went on a blind date that took over his life. He and Petrena were married March 22, 1958 in Miami, Oklahoma and in May 1965 they were blessed with a tiny little human they named Hilda Elizabeth. On March 3,1967 their second little person they named Heidi Lynn graced their lives.

Tom retired from JI Case January 27, 1989. He took on a few odd jobs after retirement. One of his retirement jobs was supporting the middle of the bar at Jakes Place where he met a ton of great friends.

Tom leaves behind his wife, Petrena Ann; daughters, Hilda (Theron) Ladinsky and Heidi (Eric) Wiseman; sister, Donna Harvel; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; five great grandchildren and two great step-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be 9:00 am, Monday, December 12, 2022 at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203; burial to follow at 11:00 am, at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the funeral home.
