Peacefully, and with family by his side, Timothy (Tom) Aguilar, Sr. was called home May 22nd to be in the presence of God and to be reunited with the family who have gone before him. Born in 1935, on the west side of Kansas City, Missouri, Tom was the 9th of 10 children born to Alejo and Jesus Aguilar who taught him the values of faith, family, hard work, respect, and appreciation.
In 1951, Tom married Patricia Louise Carter who was truly the love of his life. Together, they had 4 children, Timothy, Jr., David, Veronica and Patrick. Sadly, Patricia (1995), Timothy, Jr. (2008) and David (2011) all preceded him in death.
Also, preceding Tom in passing were his parents; brothers, Raphael Gonzales, Simon Aguilar, John Aguilar; sisters, Mary Aguilar, Clara Aguilar, Florencia Aguilar, Victoria (Marquez) Aguilar, and Jessie Aguilar.
Surviving Tom is his sister, Frances (Ramirez) Aguilar; daughter, Veronica (Michael) Foote; son, Patrick (Glenda). Also surviving Tom are his grandchildren, Mary Fugate, Victoria Aguilar, David Aguilar, Jr., Simon (Kristen) Foote, Jessica Foote, Katlin (partner Kory) Foote, Courtney (Michael) Kelly, Samantha (Matthew) Locricchio and Nick (partner Veronica) Aguilar; as well as numerous great grandkids and one great-great grandchild.
As a young man, Tom would enjoy going to see western movies with his dad and playing sports, but would also work on local farms on weekends and during the summer, giving what he earned to his parents to help with the support of his family. Upon getting married to Patricia, Tom began working for the Union Pacific Railroad with whom he would have a long-term career of 50 years. Starting as a laborer, Tom continued to promote until he became a maintenance of way foreman responsible for the repair and up keep of hundreds of miles of rail lines around the Kansas City area. Wanting to provide for his family Tom, for many years, often worked additional jobs on the Creton Farm and businesses.
Even with his rigorous work schedule Tom still found time to help with coaching youth sports and attending activities and events with his very large extended family.
This continued after the passing of his wife with Tom spending many evenings and weekends attending the volleyball, soccer, basketball or hockey games of his grandkids, nieces, nephews, as well as great grandkids, great nieces and great nephews.
A visitation will be held at Amos Family Funeral Home on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 6 p.m.
Tom and his family were long time members of St Anges parish which is where his funeral will be held this Friday at 10:00 a.m. Afterwards Tom will be laid to rest next to his wife in Resurrection cemetery in Lenexa.
In lieu of flowers we recommend those wishing to donate to the Encompass Hospice 14833 W 95th St, Lenexa, KS 66215 or Guadalupe Center 1015 Avenida Cesar E Chavez Kansas City, MO 64108.
