Tom L. Reece

Tom L. Reece, 63, Merriam, Kansas, passed away, Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

Tom was born December 5, 1945 in Clinton, Missouri to Arlen D. and Mildred (Huggins) Reece. After graduating Fairland Oklahoma High School, Tom joined the United States Army and soon after was sent to fight in the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge from the army, Tom settled in Merriam, Kansas and found employment with ABF Truck Lines where he was employed for over 25 years until his retirement. Tom is a member of American Legion Post #370. He also visited Post #327 as well, as a member of V.F. W. Post #846 and member of Teamsters Local Union #41.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Terry and Bill. Survivors include one daughter Michelle "Miki" and husband Steve Stevener, Coconut Creek, Florida; one son John and wife Doni Reece, Cary, North Carolina; a brother Larry and wife Linda Reece; three grandchildren Lauryn and Brendan Stevener, and Paige Reece; many nieces and nephews and his loyal and loving dog Jack.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20006-3517.

Memorial Services

Private burial services will be held Friday, May 22, 2009 at Leavenworth National Cemetery. A public celebration of Tom's life will be held 3:30 p.m., Friday, May 22, 2009 at American Legion Post # 370, 7500 West 75th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66204.
