Ulhas (Ullas, meaning happiness) was born on Feb 27th, 1947 to late Manharlal Bhagwandas Sanjanwala and Late Sumati Manharlal Sanjanwala in Umbergaon, a small coastal town in southern Gujarat. He was the second son after Vipul (deceased in 1996) in the family. Nandkishore (brother), Harsha (sister) and Madhusudan (brother) are his younger surviving siblings. He enjoyed the vast, clean beaches in his hometown with family and friends. His primary and secondary education was in M. M. High school in Umbergaon. After matriculation and with his aspiration to be a scientist, he moved to Navasari, a city about 50 miles north of Umbergaon, to pursue a degree in science. After successfully graduating with a bachelors degree in science, Ulhas moved to join his elder brother Vipul in Mumbai where both brothers stayed in a hostel for two years until they found a suitable place to rent. He studied medical technology while in Mumbai. He had big ambitions and wanted to explore the world.
On his own and with the right attitude, courage and enthusiasm, Ulhas started applying for medical technology programs in the United States. He was determined to go to the US. After a couple of disheartening rejections, he was finally accepted in a medical technology program in Springfield, Missouri in 1970. He left India on July 2nd. Ulhas ventured into a new world and settled in the US while keeping close ties with the family back home. He returned to India in 1973 and found love and a life partner, Smita. They were married 1973 summer. Their two sons, Kaushal and Shalin, were born shortly after the wedding. Ulhas endured the pain and demise of his beloved wife Smita in January 2011. Kaushal's wife Ami and Shalin’s wife Sunita took care of him after Smita passed away. He treated both his daughters-in-law as his own. And like wise his love was reciprocated by them both. He was proud of Kaushal and Shalin and their accomplishments.
Ulhas enjoyed his grandsons Aiyan, Krrish and Sohan and frequently talked about their success to everyone he met. He maintained a close relationship with Smita's siblings Geeta and Gaurang and their families. Ulhas was an active member of Kansas City Gujarati Samaj and the Hindu Temple of The Greater Kansas City. He played leading roles in these organizations to ensure success in every event undertaken. Till his last day, he believed in giving and making sure his loved ones were happy. Ulhas struggled to advance in life while making sure his loved ones were protected and would not have to undergo same struggles, he did. He was always willing to help others and extended his assistance in any way he could. On May 4th, 2022, Ulhas went to sleep not to wake up on the 5th morning. During the night he left his humanly body to merge with Almighty.
Ulhas lived a purposeful life leaving behind the legacies of happiness and positive energy serving justice to his given name Ullas.
