Vada Murray

November 6, 1926 — June 20, 2021

Vada Murray 94 of Merriam, KS passed away peacefully June 20, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born Vada Alice Betzel on November 6, 1926 in Kansas City, Kansas, to the late George Edwin Betzel and Stacy Jane Neighbors Betzel.

She was a graduate of the US Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II and worked as an industrial nurse for Trans World Airlines, Fairbanks Morse, and Sunshine Biscuits. She was an avid gardener, birdwatcher, and animal enthusiast. Vada was a great humanitarian who selflessly gave of herself to her church, the community, and her extended family. All who met her discovered her to be a very positive and enthusiastic person of quiet dignity, who preferred to focus on the goodness of life and its happier moments.

Vada is survived by her husband of 69 years Max Murray; her daughters Laura Winsor and husband Dennis and Mary Sheridan and husband Scott; her beloved grandchildren Stephen and Morgan Sanders; as well as her great-grandchildren Sunny Ray Sanders, Emerson Van Bohlken, and many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by siblings Gertrude Bryce, Della Glenn, Gladys Tackett, Russell Betzel, and her beloved dachshund Chippy.

Her funeral will be held Friday June 25, 2021 visitation 12:30 pm with a service at 1:30 at The Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee. Burial will follow at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, KS.
