Velma L. Bender, 84, of Shawnee, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Shawnee Hills Independent Living.
Velma was born November 11, 1929 to the late Charles and Daisy Shippy in Woodbine, Kansas. She graduated from Dickinson High School in 1948 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Christian Training Institute in Edmonton, Canada in 1953. Velma was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shawnee where she was active with her Sunday school class.
Velma was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Lynette F. Ross and husband Scott; Linda M. Wilson and husband Rick; four granddaughters, Shalyce F. Davis; Shannon R. Davis; Lyndsy M. Bailey and husband Peter; Sarah L. House and husband Tyler; a step granddaughter, Katie L. Teutemacher; a grandson, David S. Ross and wife Chelsi; four great granddaughters, Emmilin K. Davis; Sophia G. Ross; Rachel S. Ross; Anna K. Bailey; seven great grandsons, Samuel D. Ross; Elijah L. Bailey; Benjamin E. Bailey; Jackson M. Bailey; Michael W. House; Nathan S. House and Caden D. Teutemacher.
Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9th at the First Baptist Church of Shawnee with Services following the visitation at 11 a.m.
