He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for his entire career, starting as an apprentice in the Argentine shops and advancing into upper management until he retired. He served three years in the Army National Guard of Kansas, Company G, 137th Infantry Regiment until July, 1956. He loved to travel, fish and hunt and had some great stories to tell. He was a collector of many things including Indian artifacts, fishing lures and antique wrenches, to name a few.
Vernon was a loving husband who faithfully and selflessly cared for his wife through a long and difficult illness before her passing. His family meant everything to him and he never missed an opportunity to tell them how proud he was of all of them. His family offers a special thank you to all of his wonderful neighbors and to his close friend, Pauline Wilcox. He will be missed by many, but especially by his family who loved him very much.
