Viola Maxine Throckmorton, 93, passed away peacefully on December 18th, 2018. Viola was born on November 19, 1925, in La Fountain, KS to Gladys and William Strow. She grew up in the area around Cherryvale, KS and later moved to Kansas City where she met and married the love of her life, Stanley Throckmorton in June 1948.
Vi and Stan later moved to Parsons, KS where they raised their two children, Sherri and Mark. They were active members of the First Assembly of God Church in Parsons for almost 50 years.
Vi was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. A selfless and ever-present positive force to her family. Her kind spirit and assurance that God would make everything right became a guiding light to not only her loved ones but anyone else who crossed her path. Her unwavering commitment to God was one of the strongest pillars of her personality. From a young age when she lost her mother in a car accident Vi put her faith in God and has carried that faith with her ever since.
Vi had a strong work ethic and even at age 93 was constantly talking about needing to "go to work".
She was probably most proud of the fact that she opened and managed the National Bellas Hess Catalog Store in Parsons in 1962. She ran a successful business there for several years until she was asked to open and manage the Catalog Department at the J.C. Penney's store. She later held several different positions at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant and worked there for over 20 years prior to retirement.
In 1991, after retirement, Vi and Stan moved to Prairie Village and enjoyed many years being near their children and grandchildren, who were the focus of their lives.
Vi is preceded in death by her son Mark Throckmorton, her husband, Stanley Throckmorton, her cousin and best friend Shirley Nipper, brother Carl Strow and parents, Gladys and William Strow. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Dan Robeson of Leawood, and daughter-in-law Kim Throckmorton of Overland Park, as well as her 6 grandchildren: Dan Robeson Jr, Hayley Cacioppo, Jared, Billy, Wesley and Sydni Throckmorton and eleven great-grandchildren.
The most important things in Vi's life were her love of family and God. She will be remembered as a kind and loving woman, who never failed to comfort those around her. Her family would like to express sincere thanks to all the caregivers who cared for her throughout her last years. We can't thank you enough for the love and kindness you showed Miss Viola, and all of us, throughout this time.
Visitation will be held on the Saturday after Christmas, December 29, 2018, from 9am to 10am at Amos Family Funeral Home on Johnson Drive. Burial will be immediately afterwards at 10:30am at Resurrection Cemetery 83rd & Quivira.
Family suggests donations to KC Hospice & Palliative Care or a charity of your choice.
