Virginia Ruth Brantman

b. April 17, 1924

Virginia Ruth Brock Brantman 89, passed away at the Sweet Life Shawnee in Shawnee, Kansas.

Virginia was born April 17, 1924, in Hazel Run, Minnesota. She graduated from Hanley Falls High School in 1942. After graduation she began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She married Gordon Brantman on June 1, 1947, residing in Marshall, Minnesota. After the birth of their 3 children, she helped in the family ballroom and insurance businesses but mostly was a stayat home mom. She was a Girl Scout leader (including cookie sale chairman!), Cub Scout leader and Sunday School teacher.

In 1963 the family moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Virginia returned to work for Northwestern Bell/US West/Quest until her retirement in 1994 after a total of 32 years of service. Virginia moved to the Kansas City area in 2006 to be close to family. Her family always came first and time spent with them was the best. How proud she was of them. She enjoyed the churches she attended very much. Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights was a favorite. She loved Big Band music and could name that tune and quote the lyrics as well as the performers. In her words “I’ve had a good life”.

Preceded in death by husband Gordon in 1997. Survived by their children and their spouses: Jo Ann and Duane Skorupan Shawnee, Kansas. Greg and Susan Brantman Fairway, Kansas. Jill and Dr. Charles Schwantes Prior Lake, Minnesota. Two grandchildren: Tom and Stephanie Brantman Fairway, Kansas. Heather Brantman and Phil Torpey Roeland Park, Kansas. Two great grandchildren: James and August Brantman Fairway, Kansas. Thanks to Gentiva Hospice staff for their support.
