Born Virginia Louise Beckner on June 6, 1944 (D-Day) the first born child of William Claude and Ann (Wilson) Beckner in Des Moines, Iowa. It was customary to call the Beckner guys ‘Beck'. When people saw the little girl in the stroller, she quickly became Becky - and so it stuck. She grew up in the traditional Iowan way with hard work, religion, 4-H and lots of love. She graduated from Perry High in 1962. While attending University of Missouri (or as she would say - Missour-AH) in Columbia, she met the love of her life. She and Helmut were married in 1964 and were the perfect pair: best friends, travel companions, yin and yang. He made things and she made them beautiful. She loved to learn, discover and create. During her life she started her own daycare business, wrote a gardening column for the newspaper, grew beautiful gardens and lots of flowers, sewed, quilted, knit and built a house. She was a planner and organizer who loved to travel so the years as a travel agent were a perfect fit. She loved her family and is survived by her daughter, Annemarie and her husband Rob, their five children, Maggie, Lizzie, Brendon, Anna and Morgan, and her brother Bill Beckner. On July 12, 2016 Becky left this world but her example of a life well-lived remains with those of us who knew her and will no doubt be passed on to others through us.

Visitation and Funeral Services

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. with a funeral services at 2:00 on Friday, July 15 at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee. Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 16 at the Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, IA.

The family suggest contributions to Heartland SPCA (Animal Haven) or Kansas City Hospice.
