Vivian “Honey” Gilbert of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2014, of Alzheimer’s. She was born on December 21, 1923, in Newburg, Missouri.
Vivian is survived by two sons, James (Jim) Gilbert and his wife Eladia (Lydia) of Merriam, Kansas, and Randall (Randy) Gilbert of Sacramento, California; two grandchildren, Charles (Chuck) Gilbert of Merriam, Kansas, and Janet Cunningham of Blue Springs Missouri; and seven great grandchildren, Dillon Gilbert, Julia Gilbert, Dean Gilbert, Walter Cunningham, Alex Cunningham, Talon Gilbert, and Lilly Cunningham. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Floid J. Gilbert; mother, Lillie Hudgens; father, Clarence Hudgens; and brother, Lowell Hudgens.
Vivian enjoyed writing poetry, traveling throughout the United States to collect rocks and minerals, and she was a member of the Eastern Star. For a number of years she owned a business in Overland Park before retiring.
The family wishes to express our most sincere thanks to Freedom Pointe of Overland Park for the loving care given to Vivian over the last years of her life. Vivian was a very loving and giving person her entire life. She brought joy to all she met. Even in her later years, she was very kind and respectful to everyone she encountered even though she was unable to recognize even close friends and family.
Visitation will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2014, followed by a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m., at Amos Funeral Home on Johnson Drive in Shawnee, Kansas. Burial will be at the Hudgens family plot in Newburg, Missouri, on April 3, 2014.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
