Walter Belczak

June 20, 1927 — November 23, 2020

Walter Belczak, born 6/20/1927 in Detroit, Michigan to John and Helen (Warwa) Belczak, died 11/23/20 in Shawnee, Kansas.

Graduated from St. Augustine High School as Senior Class President in 1944. Enlisted in the Navy in 1945, as a Yeomen Third Class. Attended the University of Detroit following his discharge from the Navy in 1946. Worked for Cook Paint & Varnish Company for 40+ years, starting in the lab and retiring as the Vice President of Sales.

Married Shirley Greenia, his High School sweetheart, on September 16, 1950.

Dad, Grandpa, PaPa, and friend to many will be missed! He had such a zest for life and brought a smile to so many of the lives that he touched. He enjoyed interacting with people, whether it be family members, friends, and neighbors, or people he encountered at the grocery store & restaurants, it didn’t matter if he knew them, or met them for the first time.

His yard will never look the same; the golf course has lost an avid golfer, and the stock market has one less person keeping an eye on it. Grandkids will remember bumping bellies; nieces and nephews will miss playing gin or euchre. Family will miss watching sports and waiting for him to decide if he roots for Michigan or Ohio. He will be remembered for his contagious laugh, mischievous pranks on friends & neighbors, and his lifelong commitment to caring for his family.

Preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Shirley, and oldest son, James. Survived by daughter-in-law Betty Belczak, sons Richard (Suzette) and Kenneth (Donna) Belczak, daughter Kathleen Hattaway. Grandchildren: Jeffrey Hattaway, Rachel Hattaway (Nate Oborny), Sarah (Christopher) Hefley, Britany (Nick) Martindale, Amanda (Jonathan) Gurney, Joseph (Melissa) Belczak, Bryan Belczak, and Tara (Maxwell) Larimer. Great-Grandchildren: Ivy Hattaway, Juliette & Jack Martindale, Harrison & Norah Hefley, and Walter Larimer.
