Walter J. Gomez, 50, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away Monday, November 14, 2016.
Walter was born March 19, 1966 to Walter and Blanca Gomez in Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. Wally graduated from Aquinas High School in 1984, and continued his education by earning a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Kansas. He was a consummate educator and had a passion for guiding and mentoring inner city youth. He was a creative and talented artist that used his talents to educate and inspire his students. Wally was a teacher at Alta Vista Middle School and recently started teaching at Smith-Hale Middle School. His passion was science and he loved passing that knowledge on to the youth in his classes.
Wally is survived by his two sons, Blake Christian Gomez and Preston James Gomez; his parents, Walter and Blanca Gomez; a brother George Gomez and wife Denise; former spouse Juliet Gomez and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Monday, November 21 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The family will receive friends an hour prior to Mass at the church. Walter will be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
