Wanda Jean Davis

April 9, 1924 — December 21, 2016

Wanda Jean Davis, 92, passed away peacefully at 12:15 pm, December 21, 2016 at Sharon Lane Nursing Home in Shawnee, KS. She was the daughter of Harry Austin and Beulah Belle Murray, born near Simpson in Mitchell County, Kansas on April 9, 1924.

Jean grew up on a farm and attended a one room country school through 8th grade. She lived with a family in Beloit, KS to complete high school. Upon graduation, Jean moved to Kansas City where she worked at Mid Continent Airlines. She was married to Glenn Keith Davis on December 22, 1946 and they enjoyed almost 67 years together until he passed away in 2013. She leaves behind brother, Bob Murray of Winder, GA, son Steve (Lelah) Davis of Columbus, OH, daughter, Nancy Wagner and daughter Judy (Ken) Hensley, both of Shawnee Mission, KS, seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Jean resided in Shawnee Mission, KS since 1959 and worked several secretarial jobs including Kansas Savings and Loan and at the City of Shawnee. She was an active member of Lenexa United Methodist Church for many years. She will be remembered for her homemade cooking, her love of family, her passion for researching genealogy, her servant’s heart, listening ear and easy conversation with all she met.

Services

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 29th, at Lenexa United Methodist Church, 9138 Caenen Lake Rd, Lenexa, KS 66215 at 9:30am, services following at 10:30. A procession will follow at 12:30 for burial next to Glenn at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
