Wanda Lee Mathews, 78, Shawnee, Kansas passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri.

Wanda was born August 7, 1930 in Bonner Springs, Kansas to Huron A. and Margaret (Oelschlaeger) Lingo. Wanda and her husband, James opened the Carpet Corner in 1968 in the Kansas City metropolitan area. She retired in 2004. Wanda was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Mathews May 29, 1998 and her sister, Mae Meyer. Survivors include her three daughters, Rebecca Hipsher, Kansas City, Kansas, Janice Mathews, Parkville, Missouri and Barbara (Doug) Earp, Lenexa, Kansas; three sons, James M. (Barbara) Mathews, Eudora, Kansas, Jeffery (Teri) Mathews, Smithville, Missouri and Michael (Leslie) Mathews, Shawnee, Kansas; 19 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to either Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City, MO 64114 or the Alzheimer's Association, Heartland Chapter, 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Friends may call from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2008 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, where a rosary recitation will be at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 8 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church with burial following in the St. John's Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas.
