Wanda Snyder Whitney

June 16, 1934 — March 6, 2020

Wanda S. Whitney, 85, of Overland Park, died March 6, 2020.   Wanda was born on June 16, 1934 near Lucerne, Missouri to Murl and Jessie Snyder.  She met her husband of 61 years, Duane, while attending secretarial college at Chillicothe, Missouri.  After moving to Kansas City, she began working for Skelley Oil and married Duane.  She worked full time while Duane worked and attended night school to get his degree.  After he graduated, they bought a house in Overland Park, Kansas where they lived for many years.  They decided to start a family and both were surprised and shocked when the doctor announced that they had twins.

Wanda volunteered in the Girl Scouts, the PTA and the church.  When the twins were older Wanda began working as a secretary for the City of Overland Park and worked there for many years.  After retiring, Wanda and Duane took many trips including Europe, Canada, an Alaskan Cruise and the Rose Parade.  They worked for many years for the Homes Association.  Wanda was a good cook and enjoyed family dinners when everyone would gather around the dining room table.

When Duane was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Wanda became his care taker and went to see him every day after he was moved to a care center.  Wanda spent the last three years of her life being taken care of by kind and caring workers at Forest Creek Care Center.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a grandson, Kendall.  She is survived by her children, Dave (Michelle) and Debra, grandchildren Jay (Gemma) and Melia, Ryan (Kelsey), Chelsea (Dan), Jessica (Sean), great grandchildren, Jace and Hayes, Jason, Devyn, Braden, Maddie, Eli,  brothers Ron (Donna) and Duane (Jan) and many nieces and nephews.
