W. Brett Chapin

Wayne Barrett “Brett” Chapin III, age 51, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away on Sunday February 20th, 2022 at his home.

Brett was born on December 24, 1970 to Wayne Barrett and Rosemary (Kennedy) Chapin in St. Paul, Minnesota. After graduating from Mounds View High School in 1989, he went on to study accounting at the University of Kansas. After graduation, he worked as a public accountant prior to attaining his Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas in 1999. He then went on to practice law for the past 22 years.

In 2001, he married his former spouse, Kristen Shelley-Chapin, and they had 2 children, Maggie and Katie Sue.

Brett enjoyed coaching and cheering on his daughters in their activities. He was also an avid fisherman, car enthusiast, book worm, and dog lover.

Brett is survived by his daughters, Maggie and Katie Sue; his parents, Barry and Rosemary Chapin of Lawrence, KS; his sister Bridgett (Leo) of Lawrence, KS; his brother Ben (Bonnie) of Gainesville, FL; along with his nieces, Annika, Zacha, and Phoebe, and nephews, Grant and Barrett.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 11am-12pm prior to a funeral mass immediately following at 12pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11311 Johnson Dr. Shawnee, KS 66203. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Shawnee.

A memorial fund has been set up for his daughters, Maggie and Katie Sue.  Contributions may be made payable to Edward Jones and be mailed or delivered to Edward Jones-Tim Deves Agency at 6339 Long Ave. Ste B. Shawnee, KS 66216.
