Welma Doris Voelk of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on May 16, 2022. She was born on May 6, 1928, on a farm in Unadilla, Nebraska to William W. & Sena Ehmen, the 8th of 11 children, baptized June 24th at Hope Lutheran Church in Burr, Nebraska & confirmed April 18, 1943, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling, Nebraska. She was married to Edgar J. Voelk August 22, 1948, by her father-in-law Rev. John Voelk.
Welma taught rural school for several years, worked in different banks, & in the business office at Shawnee Mission Medical Center for 37 years, retiring in 2006. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church. In addition, she was a Sunday school teacher & church office volunteer. At the time of her death, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran, Mission, Kansas.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Edgar, who passed on March 3rd, 1999, after 50 years of marriage, grandson Jeffrey Voelk, sisters Matilda (Hubert) Truscott, Darline Ehmen, Frieda (Orvin) Rathe, Arline (Neal) Zimmerman, Esther (Lorin) Fritsch, Joan (Robert) Hestermann, brothers Ernest (Martha) Ehmen, Dale Ehmen, Merlin (Colleen) Ehmen, William J. (Janice) Ehmen, In-laws Eleanor (Milton) Meyer, Russ Rowe, Mary Voelk, 4 nephews, & 3 nieces.
She is survived by her three sons - Gerald (Janis) Voelk, John (Theresa) Voelk, & James (Victoria) Voelk, her grandchildren - Jeanette (John) Schwartz, Jay (Stephanie) Voelk, Justin Voelk, Anthony Voelk, Jacob (Kayla) Voelk, & Jessica Voelk, her great-grandchildren - Joshua, Juliana, Jayna, Jessa, & Jensen Schwartz, Jackson & Jasper Voelk, sister-in-law Ruth Rowe, and 31 nieces & nephews.
Welma enjoyed traveling. She & Edgar traveled all over the U.S. in their 5th wheel. After Edgar’s passing, she visited countries overseas. She enjoyed working in her yard & house, sewing, & puzzles. She loved our God & was a very loving mother & grandmother. One of her greatest joys was spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks with family & friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 10 to 11 am with a funeral service beginning at 11am, both at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mission, Kansas. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
