Willa Ann Meier, 93, Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Lakeview Village Care Center, Lenexa, Kansas.

Willa was born April 14, 1922 in Osborne, Kansas, to William G. and Dorothea M. Rousey. Willa was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Meier in 2001; son, Russell H. Meier in 2006; daughter, Susan J. Meier in 1976 and brother, Richard P. Rousey in 1985. Survivors include her son, William (Juliane) Meier, Overland Park, KS; sister, Mateel Haas, Overland Park, KS; two grandchildren, Alexa A. Meier and Christopher W. Meier both of Overland Park, KS and many other family and friends.

Willa graduated from Alma Center High School, Alma Center, Wisconsin, in 1940. She then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from the University of Wisconsin in 1944. While in college, Willa met Bob, her future husband, and they married in Detroit, MI in 1944. Willa and Bob subsequently lived in the Moline, Illinois area - Urbandale, Iowa area - Ottumwa, Iowa and Ankeny, Iowa. For the last several years Willa lived in Lenexa, Kansas.

Willa was an accomplished piano and organ keyboardist. As a member of Sweet Adelines, she enjoyed singing and musical arrangement. Family reunions were more fun when the singing began and Willa contributed lyrics and harmony. Willa and her sister Teel would harmonize long into the night whenever they got together. Willa was also dedicated to nutrition and healthy diets. She made sure everyone in the family had delicious food that did not pack on the pounds. Willa contributed her time and energy as a volunteer and leader in the early years of the Alliance for Independence organization, Polk County, Iowa.

Memorial Service

A visitation will be 10-11 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2015, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Lakeview Village, Heritage Building, 9100 Park, Lenexa, Kansas 66215.
