William Lawrence Clark

August 3, 1924 — June 7, 2013

William Lawrence Clark, 88, of Lenexa, passed away Friday, June 7, 2013, at Lakeview Village.

Bill was born the first of twins, August 3, 1924, to the late Arthur and Marcelene (Smith) Clark in Overbrook, Kansas. He served in the United States Navy before attending Kansas State University and earning a bachelor's degree in Microbiology. Bill retired from the U.S. Navy Reserves as a Master Chief Petty Officer after serving over 30 years.

Bill was an active member of the Shawnee United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he was involved with the Methodist Men, volunteered tirelessly at the Argentine Food Kitchen, served in church officer positions and sang in the choir.

Bill always made time to help others when needed. Bill also worked as a Lab Supervisor for over 18 years with the Kansas City VA Hospitals. He will be remembered as a very caring man who was always there for his family, friends and neighbors.

Bill is preceded in death by his first wife, Gwen (Toburen) Clark in1986. He is also preceded by his two brothers, Bob and Howard Clark, a sister, Winnie Spano. He is survived by his loving wife Jessie; two daughters, Candace Saunders and husband Al, and Cheryl Lemon and husband Ray; twin brother, Jim Clark and wife Joyce; a sister, Margaret Simmons; two grandsons, Scott Coen and wife Vicki and Trent Coen; two granddaughters, Rachel Novotny and Elizabeth Novotny; two sisters in law, Celesta Clark and Louise Clark; brother in law Tony Spano; and three step children.

A Celebration of Bill's life will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Shawnee United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall after the service.
