William D. “Bill” Jones

William D. "Bill" Jones, 96, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park. He was born July 12, 1916 in Mound City, IL, the son of Moses and Daisy Jones. He graduated from Mound City High School, and then worked with his father at the Illinois Lumber Yard in Cairo, IL. He married his sweetheart, Evangeline "Van" Metcalf in 1938, and together they shared 71 years as husband and wife. He served in the Army during World War II. They moved to Kansas City in 1956, where he was employed for several years by Western Electric until retirement in 1981. He was a member of Valley View Methodist Church where he and Van enjoyed volunteering after retirement. They loved travelling and being with their family. They were wonderful parents.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Evangeline and son Dan Jones. He is survived by son, David Jones and daughter, Toni Hutton (Jim) and grandchildren, Rebecca Hutton, Laurie Hutton, Christine Mazza and Scott Kerr.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, April 29th, at Valley View United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 12 noon prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the staff at Garden Terrace for their wonderful care.
