William (Bill) Winship Horner passed away July 8, 2017 at Olathe Hospice House. Bill was born May 9, 1933, in Kansas City, Kansas to Edna Cooke Horner and Oliver H. Horner, the youngest of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Martie, Pat and Eileen, and brothers Dwight and Bud. Bill lost his father when he was five and the family moved for a short time to Weatherby Lake and then to Kansas City, Missouri. At an early age he started working for Fred Olander at the National Livestock Company, and loved to tell stories of the stockyards during the flood of 1951 He graduated from Southwest High School and attended Kansas State University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta. He served with the Army in the Korean War as a laboratory technician. After college, Bill followed his love of sports cars as a salesman for Kansas City Jaguar-MG; however, the majority of his career was spent in marketing in the office interiors business. He started as a salesman for the E.F. Hauserman Company, and worked his way up to the position of Area Manager. He was a sales manager for American Business Interiors and a sales rep for Fixtures office seating. After retirement from the office interiors business he became a courier for Quest Diagnostics, indulging two of his favorite pastimes, driving and talking to people. The joys of his life were his children and grandchildren, and his golden retriever, Lily. He was so proud to tell people that he had six Eagle Scouts in his family- his son, son-in-law, and four grandsons. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Adrienne, a daughter, Kim Brown (Bill), a son Kirk Horner (Kelly), grandsons Benjamin Brown (McKenzie), Jeremiah Brown, Keane Horner, Kellan Horner, one granddaugher, Kelsi Horner, and many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 6306 Roe Avenue, Prairie Village, Kansas. A reception will be held at the church following the service.
