William Jones

William (Bill) Robert Jones, 72, was fatally injured in a motorcycle/car accident on Wednesday, August 14. 2013.

William was born in Vasalia, California, on April 16, 1941. He was the son of William Robert Jones and Zelma Irene Richerson.

Bill grew up in Shawnee, Kansas, where he lived until he joined the Navy. He served from 1959 to 1963. He served on aircraft carriers in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Upon returning home he shortly hired on at TWA where he worked for 40 years. After their buyout, he continued to work for American Airlines for another five years. After marrying Mary, he returned to Shawnee where they have lived for the last 32 years.

He was a member of the Shawnee VFW and an active participator in riding with the Patriot Guards. He was a friend to all and the rock on which his family learned. He will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, step-father, Ferrel Bedell, his brother Richard W. Jones, and his son, William Robert Jones, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Lou (Bottorff) Jones; two daughters, Kathy Norton and Sarah Taylor (Jake); and three grandchildren, Zakari Norton, Jackson Taylor, and Mary Crosby Taylor.

A memorial visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2013, also at the funeral home. Inurnment in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
