William “Bill” C. Mullarky passed away on August 18th, 2021 in his home in Kansas City, Missouri.

Bill was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Benjamin and Louise Mullarky on December 21st, 1924. He had a sister, Dorothy, with whom he grew up with in Kansas City. He graduated from Central High School in 1941 and he attended numerous alumni and reunion events throughout the years. He became an Eagle Scout and worked on staff at the Boy Scout Camp Osceola for 6 years.

He enlisted in the Navy in December of 1942 and was a pilot in the Naval Air Corp. He joined VSB1 SB2C Dive Bombers at Cecil Field, Florida. This produced several memorable stories for his friends and family. He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1945. He started at the University of Kansas in February of 1946 and graduated in June of 1947. He was on the honor roll and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He was hired by Dunn and Bradstreet in July 1947. Following his tenure with Dunn and Bradstreet, where he worked in Oklahoma City and Tulsa as a branch manager, he moved to Commercial Claims in 1961. While with Commercial Claims, he became the General Manager and Vice President which he continued until his retirement. In his spare time, he became the founding director of the American Commercial Collectors Association, and later the President of the Commercial Law League. He went back to school and attended UMKC receiving a Masters of Public Administration. He retired in 1990. He was active in the Rotary Club for 50 years becoming the President of the Kansas City, Kansas chapter, followed by being a District Governor, a Paul Harris Fellow and a participant in an overseas project in Portugal. He also served on the Prairie Village City Council, the Park Board and the Civil Service Commission.

While traveling for business in Iola, Kansas, he met Beverly Harrison. They married on April 25, 1954. Together they had three sons: Dan, Tim and Matt. They were married for 66 years prior to Beverly’s passing on July 21, 2020. They both were active with the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scout Troop 91 at the Village Church.

Bill was the Apache section leader and was subsequently awarded the Silver Beaver award for more than 20 years of service to the Scouts. Bill was heavily involved with 3&2 baseball where most summers he coached 3 teams for his sons. He loved pitching batting practice for the kids on a field they called the “Rock Pile”. He also coached football for the 5th through the 9th grade teams-- so, when he had grandsons, they called him “Coach.” He enjoyed the Royals, the Chiefs and watching KU basketball throughout the years. He always looked forward to the NAIA Basketball tournament in downtown Kansas City. It was a rite of passage for his sons to attend 8 games on a Wednesday and dinner at the Italian Gardens. He eventually became an honorary Coach for tournament teams. When he had free time after retirement, he and Bev both volunteered at the Folly Theater in downtown Kansas City and at the Village Church Food Pantry.

He is survived by his sons Daniel Mullarky, Timothy Mullarky, and Matthew and wife Kathi Mullarky; 3 grandsons Ryan, Conor and Lucas Mullarky.

Bill’s Memorial Service will be held at the Village Presbyterian Church, where he and Bev were active members for countless years. There will be a reception at the church following his service. He will be laid to rest, with his wife Bev, at the Corinth Cemetery.
