William Oswald “Bill” Pfeiffer

June 30, 1952 — October 27, 2020

William Oswald (Bill) Pfeiffer age 96 passed away at Lakeview Village on October 27th, 2020.  The memorial services are not being held due to the COVID pandemic. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Louise Pfeiffer who passed away on 2/13/2010. Bill's ashes will join his wife Betty in the Village Presbyterian Church columbarium.

He is survived by his son William Lawrence (Larry) and his wife Morgan grandsons Ryan his wife Libby and Jordan. He is also survived by his son Richard Harold (Rick ) and his wife Cindy with grandson Benjamin his wife Sarah and granddaughter Jennifer with her husband Jason. There are seven great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. William H Pfeiffer and his brother George K Pfeiffer.

He served in the US Navy in WW II from 1943 to 1946. He was discharged a Yeoman first class after having served in the education department of the Armed Guard on Treasure Island and as the Captain Yeoman board the Troop ship the SS Santa Monica. He is an alumnus of Whitworth College and San Francisco Theological Seminary . He was ordained to the Presbyterian Ministry in Pleasanton Kansas on June 30, 1952. He served pastorates in Pleasanton, Syracuse and Paola.

He was elected to serve as Director of the Church Development Corporation in 1968 to 1972 in the Synod of Kansas. In March 1972 he was granted from the College of Emporia the degree of Doctor of Business  Administration for his outstanding work in the Church Development Corporation. In 1973 when the Synods re-organized he was elected to serve as the Director /President of the Church Development Corporation and Fiscal Officer for the Synods of Mid America serving the area of Kansas, Missouri and Illinois.  He retired in 1989 as the Fiscal Officer for the Synods and in 1990 as the President of the Church Development Corporation. Under his management the Corporation grew from assets of approximately a quarter of $1 million to over $9.5 million of which 72 loans were made with 15 going to new churches.
