William E. Studyvin

William E. Studyvin passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at the Shawnee Gardens Nursing and Rehab, Shawnee, Kansas.

Bill Studyvin was born in Mulberry, Kansas, in 1924. He was the eldest of four children. He worked to help support the family from the age of 13, when his father passed away in the middle of the depression. After he graduated from high school in Pittsburg, Kansas, he enlisted in the Marines and spent WWII engaged in heavy combat in the South Pacific. After the war he married Virginia Lee Williams and went to college on the GI Bill, he later earned a Masters degree.

He spent his career in education as an industrial arts teacher, a guidance counselor, superintendent of buildings and grounds and retired after many years as the Director of Practical Arts and Vocational Education for the Shawnee Mission School District.

His wife of 67 years ,Virginia, preceded him in death on September 7, 2011. He is survived by his brother Bob; sister Donna; his three children, Charles, Glenda and Steve; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Brandon, Chase and Laura; and 3 great grandchildren Hayden, Mason and Anna Grace.

Memorial service will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Private burial was in the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
