William J. Vanhee

William (Willie) J. VanHee, 88, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010 at St. Luke's South Hospital.

Willie was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus #2332 for over 50 years. He was also an Army Veteran of WWII, and a retired Belgian vegetable farmer.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents Gustav and Mary (Maes) VanHee; his first wife, Elsie (Lust) VanHee; one daughter Sister Maria VanHee O.S.B.; and a half sister Irene Dobbels Virad. Willie is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Morris Coomes VanHee of the home; two daughters, Joan VanHee, Merriam, Kansas and Rosemary (Richard) Steichen, Albuquerque, New Mexico; one step-son Michael ( Mi Young) Coomes, Honolulu, Hawaii; one brother Charles (Bernice) VanHee, Shawnee, Kansas; four grandchildren, Jane (John) Lewis, Palm Springs, California, Carol (Alexander) Hanuska, San Jose, California, Patrick Coomes, San Leandro, California, Shelia (Jared) Kubota, San Diego, California; and six great-grandchildren, Tatum, Pierce and Parker Lewis; Anna, Luke and Mia Hanuska.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Benedictine Sisters of Mt. St. Scholastica, 801 S. 8th Street, Atchison, Kansas 66002.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Visitation 6-8:00 p.m., will be Friday, February 12, 2010 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 13, 2010, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church with burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
