William F. Yonke

William (Bill) Yonke, 74, of Shawnee, KS, died, Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015.

Bill was born May 11, 1940 in Kansas City, MO to William John and Anna Marie Mausser Yonke. He worked for the Shawnee Mission Post Office for 32 years, retiring as Manager of Mail Processing in 1992. He attended St. Pius Catholic Church, St. Joseph Catholic Church and Westside Family Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was proud to have donated platelets and over 32 gallons of blood for the Community Blood Center, as well as volunteered many hours at Catholic Charities, Dad loved to do stained glass and spend time in his shop. Bill was an avid prankster and enjoyed a good laugh with others.

He spent endless hours watching and cheering on his kids and then grandkids at their many sports and loved every minute of it. He was a very giving man who was loved and will be missed by so many. We will hold onto the memories we have and we are glad he is no longer suffering.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dr. Annette Yonke.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sandy Yonke; sons, Steve (Christy) Yonke, Doug (Janiece) Yonke, and Jeff (Janice) Yonke; a daughter, Amy (Kris) McElroy; a sister, Carolyn (Don) Martin and eight grandchildred that he loved so much, Kyle Yonke (28), Courtney Boyd (Cody) (26), Curtis Yonke (23), Drew Yonke (16), Erin Yonke (12), Rylee McElroy (12), Carson McElroy (9) & Lauren Yonke (6).

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Friday at the Amos Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. All services will be casual dress, as Bill would want.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to KU Cancer Center, Kansas City Hospice or feel free to donate blood or platelets in his honor.
