William Edward “Ed” Zarda, Jr. passed away in the early morning Tuesday October 4th, 2022 at the age of 76, surrounded by loving family.
Ed was born on May 31st, 1946 to Mary and Ed Zarda, Sr., the eldest of 7 children. Ed, or Eddie as he liked to be called, loved the outdoors, gardening, and his basset hounds. As a child, he participated in 4-H, raising rabbits and growing vegetables. Ed attended St. Joseph Catholic Church where he graduated in 1964. Ed was a hard worker from an early age, starting at Art’s Meat Market of Merriam and Zarda Dairy. Ed then spent many years on a successful career with TWA. He was well respected, and achieved many of his life goals. Later in life, he followed his passion for art and antiques and opened Mr. Z’s Antiques in Old Overland Park. After that venture, he worked at Hy-Vee in Olathe all the way to spring 2020.
Ed spent 41 wonderful years married to the love of his life, Dorothy, who preceded him in death in September 2018. Ed and Dorothy loved each other deeply, and made a home and meaningful memories with everyone they met.
Ed is survived by his son, Joseph Edward Zarda, stepson Jason (Marie) Cady, brothers John (Janet) Zarda, Kerry Zarda, and George (Michelle) Zarda, and sister Dawn Zarda, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
We will honor Ed for his character and dedication. We will miss his humor, his stories, and his love. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Portia M. and the Zarda Neighbors.
