Wilma W. Townsend, 86, Merriam, KS passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Advent Health Shawnee Mission.

Wilma was born on August 19, 1933 in Agra, KS to Fred and Ethel Miller. Wilma married Gerald H. Townsend on June 2, 1956 in Manhattan, KS. He preceded her in death, on July 15, 1997. Wilma was also preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Marangelli, on March 29, 2019; her siblings, Leonard Miller, Warren Miller, Abby Schrueben, Kay Gates. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa (John) Adair of Cincinnati, OH and sons Kent (Ellen) Townsend of Topeka, KS and Alan (Anita) Townsend of Inola, OK. Wilma is also survived by grandchildren; Ty (Amy Townsend), Leslie (Mack) Mondesir, Steven (Haley) Townsend, Josh Townsend, Melissa (Travis) Walker, Luke Townsend, Jordan Adair, and step-grandchildren Michael Marangelli and Marissa Marangelli and three great grandchildren.

Wilma spent most of her married life as a housewife while working some at Johnson County Community College. Wilma was very involved in the life of Overland Park Christian Church serving on many committees and she especially enjoyed her time as a Stephen's Minister, calling on members and serving communion. Wilma will be remembered for how much she enjoyed going out to eat, happy hours and being able to travel with family and friends.

A visitation will be 9:00-10:00 am, Saturday, August 1st with a service to follow at 10:00 am at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66203.  To watch the service click here.

Please be aware that due to COVID-19 and safety precautions, we are limiting the number of people in our chapel to 45 for the funeral service. We will be rotating people through the chapel during the visitation as best as we can if more than 45 people are in at once. We ask that people respect and comply with social distancing and the mask requirement.
