Yvonne Florence Schnittker

November 1, 1918 — June 18, 2014

Yvonne Florence Schnittker (nee Carmer) 95 , passed away on June 18, 2014 at Garden Terrace, Overland Park, KS.. She was born November 1, 1918 in Gypsum, Kansas the daughter of Jay Archibald Carmer and Henrietta Agnes (Fitzgerald) Carmer. The family moved to West Palm Beach, FL in 1924 where she graduated from St. Anne's High School in 1936 and St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in Jacksonville in 1940. In 1943 she joined in the Army Air Force as 1st Lieutenant and served until 1946 after which she was a private duty nurse and later a surgical nurse for an ear, nose and throat surgeon

She and Frederick B. Schnittker were married in June 1960 in West Palm Beach. Fred, by then, was a Civil Service electrical engineer working with the Air Force in the Aerospace Cartographic and Geodetic Survey and she followed him to assignments in Albany, GA, Topeka, KS, and Biloxi, MS where he retired.

Yvonne and Fred then came to Shawnee, KS to build their dream house in 1973. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where she sang in the church choir, and was active inSt. Patrick and St. Agnes sewing circle and many other charitable activities. Yvonne also served as President of the Ladies Guild and later President of District II Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women in Kansas. An accomplished artist she enjoyed painting in oil, watercolors and working in stained glass.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred Schnittker, and brothers, Louis, Ralph, and Dale Carmer . She is survived by several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be he held from 10:30-11:00 a.m., Monday, June 23, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a Mass directly following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
