Zelma Faye Bennett Wilson, 94, of Overland Park, KS went home to Jesus on May 17, 2015. Zelma was born August 23, 1920 in Vassar, KS to Jesse and Emma Sowers Bennett. Zelma married Robert Frazier Wilson on June 14, 1944 in Topeka, Kansas. Zelma was an incredible woman of faith whose philosophy of putting Jesus first, family second, and everything else after that was apparent to everyone who knew her.

She was a woman of grace, and an excellent homemaker. When you came to her home, she greeted you at the door and prepared an excellent meal, which often included brisket and buttermilk brownies or your favorite pie. She listened well, rejoicing in good times, sharing your hard times, and always praying for you. When you left her house she was always standing in the doorway waving goodbye. The fruit of the spirit was evident in her life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Against such there is no law.

Zelma was preceded in death by Bob, to whom she was married for 70 years, her parents, and siblings; Sylvia Derbyshire, Willis Bennett, and Nina Price. She is survived by her son, Robert Wilson (Sharon) of Kansas City, MO, daughter, Cindy Ross (Mike) of Manhattan, KS, sister-in-law Ruth Yeager of Boulder, CO, 5 grand children, and 7 great-grand children.

Memorial Service

A memorial service in her honor will be held at 4pm, Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in the chapel of the Village Presbyterian Church at 6641 Mission Road . A reception at the church will follow. Zelma will be buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Quenemo, Kansas at a later date.

Contributions may be made in Zelma's name to the Samaritan's Purse, Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care or the Village Church Food Pantry.
