Carol Jeanne Hunton, age 86, victoriously entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, April 7th, 2024, in the presence of her beloved husband and many loving family members.
Carol began her life’s journey in Kansas City, Missouri on December 5th, 1937, born to Martin and Lucille Schoenfeldt. She was the second born of three daughters. She attended Southwest High School, graduating in 1955, and continued her education at Kansas State University and later at the University of Kansas, where she studied Medical Technology. After returning to Kansas City, she was invited to a dinner party one evening where she met the future love of her life, Jay Hunton, who was studying at the Nazarene Theological Seminary.
Carol and Jay were married on June 10, 1960, and began a beautiful life of ministry together that touched countless lives. Together, they followed the Lord’s calling to serve as missionaries in Malawi, Zambia and Rhodesia, opening work and building numerous churches through the years. Later, they served in Melbourne, Australia when Jay became District Superintendent to southern and western Australia. They also ministered together in Schaffhausen, Switzerland when Jay was called to become President of the European Bible College. In the States, they pastored four separate congregations, making cherished friendships all along the way. Throughout this amazing and often challenging life of service, Carol was actively involved with Jay in reaching people for Christ while modeling the very essence of servant-leadership. She exemplified graciousness, hospitality and love to all she came in contact with. She never met a stranger, only her next dinner guest!
Carol and Jay were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Heather Jayne and Heidi Jeanne. They were further blessed with seven grandchildren and seven (and still counting) great grandchildren, all of whom testify to the faithfulness and sacrificial nature of their beloved mother and “Granny”. Though our hearts are heavy at the thought of facing the years ahead without her gentle smile of encouragement, we all rejoice in the knowledge that she is now in the presence of Jesus, where He has spoken those words to her that we all hope to hear: “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Lucille Schoenfeldt; sister Gayle (Schoenfeldt) Glass; bother-in-law Carter Glass; nephew Carter Glass, Jr.
Carol is survived by her husband, Dr. Jay Hunton; sister Kathy (Schoenfeldt) Kupinski and brother-in-law Anthony Kupinski; her daughters, Heather (Hunton) Holbert and Heidi (Hunton) Irwin and two sons-in-law, Mark Holbert and Douglas Irwin.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Zachary (Kellie), Joshua (Kristin), Travis (Jamie) and Hannah Holbert, Hogan, Audrey and Taylor Irwin. Her seven great grandchildren: Kinsley, Hunton, Casen, Noah, Daniel, Everett and Madison. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces as well.
